Ultra-Pure Air Purifiers - California Ozone Emission Standards for Air Purifiers

September 27, 2007, the California Air Resources Board adopted new consumer protection regulations designed to protect California consumers from air purifiers which generate unsafe levels of ozone. The new regulations, which becomes effective in January 2009, will make California the first state in the nation to adopt such standards.

Based on the Federal Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Occupation Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards which define ozone concentrations above 0.05 parts per million (ppm) as potentially harmful, the new California standards will essentially prohibit the sale within the state of any air purifiers which exceed the Federally established stand.

While some competing air purification manufacturers have criticized this move by California, Real Spirit USA, Inc.®, the manufactures of Ultra-Pure™ and Advanced PureAir® air purifiers, commends the state on adopting these new regulations AND on their efforts to protect consumers.

In fact, long BEFORE California moved to implement state standards, Real Spirit, made a conscious, voluntary decision not only to meet but to improve upon the same Federal safety standards on which California’s new regulations are based.

Specifically, while some of our air purification units offer optional On/Off ozone as one of a whole series of integrated, state-of-the-art air purification and filtering mechanism, Real Spirit offers no units that rely exclusively on ozone for air purification. Moreover, all of our air purifiers, if they use ozone at all, emit ozone levels at or below 0.04 ppm – a full 20% below both the Federal and, soon to be implemented, California safety standard.

Since Real Spirit already voluntarily designs our air purifiers to be well below the FDA and OSHA 0.05 ppm ozone emission safety guidelines, we obviously expect and intend to remain fully compliant under the new California regulations which mirror the same Federal guidelines we adopted long ago.

As such, we welcome these new California standards and encourage other air purification industry manufactures to follow our lead and support them as well. Moreover, Real Spirit encourages consumers to purchase air purifiers only from reputable manufactures who meet the or exceed the California standards just as we do!
